Week in Review - June 29, 2025

I'm a bit behind with the weekly review posts, mainly due to the event mentioned in the next paragraph. And actually, I've just decided to resume them in an effort to get back to blogging.

This was a holiday week in the US: the celebration of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. I didn't visit any of the municipal fireworks displays this year, since a couple of our neighbors spend a ton on professional-grade fireworks and light them up with abandon. We usually sit out on the deck and watch, but this year we had a 5-year-old visitor, so we lit off a few sparklers with her and then went inside to tuck her into bed. Luckily, the loud bangs from the neighbors didn't prevent her from getting to sleep.

The entire week was unusually hot, with temps in the low 90s and the dew points above 70 degrees F most days. It was just too hot to try and do any yard work. We did manage to get some work done on the RV, and it's slowly getting set up for a couple of trips at the end of the month.

On the computer front, I spent time getting my RSS situation cleaned up. I've decided to go with InoReader as my feed and read-later app. It's a nice, clean app, and it will forward to raindrop.io, display BlueSky posts, and do text-to-speech readings. I also fiddled with the Apple Developer Betas. I have a few issues with apps not working and some odd behavior, but nothing of major consequence.

Our young visitor wanted to play some games on my iPad, so I introduced her to Monument Valley. I had no idea how she would react, being so young, but she dove right in and really enjoyed it. There were several times when she figured out the next move when I was totally stumped. We managed to make it up to level 5, and I suspect we will get through the next levels when she visits again.

That's it for now; I'll see you next week, if I can get my act together.
