Song of the Day #2
Continuing in the mood from Day 1, here’s a Dire Straits song. I’m a huge fan of the Strait's lead singer and songwriter, Mark Knopfler. He’s a fantastic technical guitar player who knows how to shape a musical phrase for maximum emotion.
As a songwriter, Mark is a storyteller. Almost all of his songs have a story in the background. This is obvious in his hit songs like ‘Sultans of Swing’ and ‘Brothers in Arms,' but it can also be a bit more subtle, as it is here.
‘Fade to Black’ from the ‘On Every Street’ album is a jazzy, somewhat somber work with marvelous guitar phrasing and some nice Hammond organ backing riffs. Enjoy!
