Cut Back on the Perfume, Please

One of our errands today was to stop by the drug store to pick up a prescription. We used the drive-thru window, as we were in a bit of a hurry to get home and start doing some work in the yard before the rains came. The process was quick and efficient, but there was one problem: the pharmacy tech was wearing perfume. LOTS OF PERFUME. The paper bag with the prescription reeked of it. My wife’s credit card reeked of it. Our car reeked of it, so much so that we had to drive with the windows open all the way home.

My wife is allergic to perfume. I’m not really allergic, but certain kinds of scents can literally make me ill. And far too many times the bad experiences with scents come during health care appointments. I’ve experienced nurses, nurses’ aides, fitness trainers, and pharmacy workers that have caused problems for my wife or myself.

Can I ask all you health care workers to do me a favor? Go easy on the scents? If you must wear perfume, a little dab is all you need.

Thank you!
